Advancing dementia care through research and technology

Dementia care technology validated by research, built from experience.

A Toronto-based organization combining clinical research and real care home experience to develop better technology for dementia care.

Built from the inside out

Most dementia care technology is built in labs, by people who have never worked a shift in a care home. Captain's Chair is different. We started with boots on the ground — and we're building technology that reflects that.

Our clinical trials test whether brain stimulation and nutritional interventions can slow cognitive decline — generating the evidence that makes our technology credible to care homes, grant bodies, and research partners.

"Do brain stimulation activities and nutritionally dense food slow the progression of dementia as measured by cognitive language assessments?"

Core Research Question

Three integrated components

Every trial delivers all three components together at partner care homes.

Clinical Assessment

Supervised cognitive assessments using validated tools including the Boston Cookie Theft picture description task, MoCA, and verbal fluency measures. Language complexity and fluency are tracked longitudinally.

Brain Stimulation Games

Accessible cognitive exercises — word association, picture matching, pattern recognition — delivered through a simple interface designed for seniors. Engagement is tracked and correlated with assessment outcomes.

Nutrition Meal Plans

Chef and nutritionist-curated meal plans grounded in evidence linking specific nutrients to cognitive health. Mediterranean diet, omega-3 rich foods, and anti-inflammatory protocols. Weekly lunches provided at partner care homes.
